Fulani Herdsmen "The hunchback of Nigeriadame

For to long we have been at the mercy of these blood thirsty maniacs called Fulani herdsmen and the silence of President Muhammadu Buhari over the persistent killings carried out by Fulani herdsmen in several parts of the country has become deafening and ultimately dangerous.

The menace of Fulani herdsmen has snowballed into a grave national security threat which requires a national emergency if our national stability is to be maintained. Already we have witnessed human tragedy being forced upon this nation by these herdsmen on monumental levels and their acts bear all tell tales of terrorism. Worse, there seems to be a lack of will to pursue the protection of Nigerians from this threat. This has emboldened the herdsmen and has won more and more to their cause.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been reacting to terrorist atrocities and killings in other parts of the world. Some of the incidents he condemned included the recent murder of people in Ivory Coast, turkey, France and Belgium. Now while being a huge fan of the president, his silence in the face of the security threat by the Fulani herdsmen has become disturbing and dangerous as the menace had spread to several states and geo-political zones in the country. His body language needs to be stronger and swifter and as such not only pipeline vandals should be treated like terrorist (in the words of PMB) but also the herdsmen where ever they may hail from kinsmen or not.

It also speaks of the value placed on the Nigerian life by the government, where a group of people kill other Nigerians with impunity, openly justify the killings as retaliation for grievances of cattle theft and the government does little or nothing to punish the killers or put an end to the killings. The number one thing that legitimises a government is the ability to protect the life of its citizens hence i am forced to ask the question " WHEN DID THE LIFE OF A COW BECOME MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE LIFE OF A HUMAN BEING? "

Nigeria should not be allowed to relapse into another round of organized militia violence after successfully containing the Boko Haram assault lest the herdsmen hold the nation by the Jugular. Under the bludgeoning of their assaults our heads may be bloody but unbowed.
